He was an original member of The Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash (later Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young). He occurs as member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his work in the Byrds & Crosby, Stills & Nash.

When inside Crosby, Stills, & Nash, he wrote several hit songs. These include Guinevere, Nearly Cut Our Hair, Long Instance Never to return, & Delta. He is noted for his trademark voice.
